MOH PS, TDRC Board members tours TDRC Labs

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary (PS) for Technical Services Dr. Jaybin Mulwanda recently led a team of TDRC board members in a tour of the Centres laboratories and the construction to familiarize himself with the operations of the Centre. During the tour, the PS who is also the Chairman of the TDRC Board, was impressed with the capacity of the Centre to undertake infrastructure improvements and acquire state of the art equipment using its own resources.
After touring the parasitology laboratory which is the main laboratory for malaria research, the PS acknowledged the crucial role that research plays to achieve the countrys vision of eliminating malaria by 2021. The Permanent Secretary emphasized that to ensure maximum utilization of the limited resources the country has, health care interventions must be evidence based and that TDRC is a major national resource that has been providing such scientific research findings. He encouraged TDRC Management to ensure that they submit policy briefs to the Ministry to inform planning and decision making especially for malaria health care interventions.
The work being done in TDRC is very impressive but we need to make sure that the broad range of research that is being done in the Centre is translated into policy and practice. Lets ensure that we produce policy briefs based on which policy makers can make decisions he said.
