Ethics

The Research Ethics Committee at the Tropical Diseases Research Centre [TDRC REC] is one of the Committees of the TDRC Board which operates independently from TDRC as a research institution.  The Committee reviews research work involving human subjects to ensure it is conducted under strict compliance with international guidelines such as the International Conference on Harmonisation, Good Clinical Practice (ICH GCP), the Declaration of Helsinki, Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) and the International Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research.

The Committee is guided by Standard Operation Procedures which ensures that research promotes and respects the dignity, rights, safety, and well-being of research subjects and that results generated by Investigators are credible and internationally acceptable. The Ethics Review Committee (REC) is an advocate of the research participant and is responsible for ensuring compliance to these standards, taking into account the interests and needs of the researchers and having due regard for the requirements of and needs of relevant regulatory agencies and applicable laws.

The TDRC REC shall be multidisciplinary and multi-sectorial in composition, including relevant scientific expertise, balanced age, and gender distribution, and laypersons representing the interests and concerns of the community.
