The National Health Research and Training Institute (NHRTI) Directorate recently paid a courtesy call to the Ministry of Health and used the opportunity to discuss its transition from the Tropical Diseases Research Centre (TDRC) as well as to outline the future of health research in Zambia.
Minister of Health Dr. Elijah Muchima warmly welcomed the transition, describing it as a modern and forward-looking approach to addressing health challenges. During the meeting, NHRTI Director General Dr. Gershom Chongwe, highlighted the expanded mandate established through the NHRTI Act No. 13 of 2024.
Dr. Chongwe noted that with the new Act, The National Health Research and Training Institute (NHRTI) is empowered to conduct research across all areas of health, providing a comprehensive resource for addressing diverse health concerns.
The Honourable Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support NHRTI in fulfilling this broader mission.
