TDRC Launches New Research Sites in Nchelenge and Mansa
Two research projects have been launched in Nchelenge and Mansa. The Mansa study's main objective is to assess the efficacy and effectiveness of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine for Intermittent Preventive Treatment (IPT) of malaria in pregnancy in Zambia. The project local Principal Investigator is Dr. V. Chalwe. The study is funded by the USA President’s Malaria Initiative under USAID.
Nchelenge is renowned for its vast water lake resources and as such malaria thrives in such an environment. It is for this reason that TDRC has taken up the challenge in conducting more studies in Luapula region and one such site chosen is Nchelenge. The study's main objective is to determine the safety and efficacy of 4 Artemisinin based combination therapy (ACTs), when administered to pregnant women with Plasmodium falciparum infection during the second and third trimester. The study's PI is Dr.M.Nambozi.
