TDRC won the 2024 National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) Research and Development Institution merit award while two of our outstanding scientists, Dr. Mike Chaponda and Dr. Ngula Monde won awards for 2024 Science and Technology Research merit awards. The event took place on 8th November, 2024 at Sarovar Premiere Hotel in Lusaka. TDRC Director and CEO Dr. Gershom Chongwe expressed delight over the Centre’s NSTC Institution merit award win, citing it as a motivational catalyst. Dr. Chongwe noted that the award’s third-time receipt underscores TDRC scientists’ dedication to addressing the nation’s disease burden. ‘This award represents an exceptional milestone, challenging us to maintain our research excellence,’ Dr. Chongwe stated. The NSTC award recognizes institutional excellence based on criteria such as research consistency and human capital capacity. Dr. Chongwe congratulated TDRC scientists Dr. Mike Chaponda and Dr. Ngula Kabelenga on their Science and Technology Research Merit awards, highlighting their inspirational value.
Meanwhile Principal Scientific Officer Dr. Christine Manyando discussed the Centre’s achievements and acknowledged the award’s recognition of its significant contributions. ‘Our research provided crucial evidence for Coartem’s efficacy,’ Dr. Manyando noted.
